I have several favorite answers to this question. Here’s mine:
Being able to answer questions reasonably is a sign of cleverness.
Being able to ask the right questions is a sign of wisdom.
Writing forces one to think about the right questions so that maybe occasionally cleverness can transform into wisdom.
